Stockbridge's Neighbourgood Market Announces New Princes Street Gardens Location
The team behind Stockbridge's hugely popular Neighbourgood Market has announced an exciting new venture in the heart of Edinburgh this summer.
Following a successful bid with the City of Edinburgh Council, the operators of Neighbourgood Market have been awarded use of the iconic Ross Bandstand in West Princes Street Gardens, where they will launch Neighbourgood Gardens from 23 July to 31 August 2026. The agreement could see them operate from the venue for up to four years.
Building on the success of the Stockbridge market, Neighbourgood Gardens will bring together independent Scottish food and drink traders alongside a packed programme of live performances throughout the Edinburgh Festival season. Visitors can expect a vibrant mix of local food, drinks, music and entertainment, all set against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.
Neighbourgood Market has grown into one of Edinburgh's most popular outdoor events since launching five years ago. Hosted at Edinburgh Academical Football Club in Stockbridge, it attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year with its focus on Scottish food and drink producers, independent traders and live music.
A familiar face will also be joining the move. Edinburgh's Cold Town Brewery, which has partnered with Neighbourgood Market in Stockbridge, will be supporting the new Princes Street Gardens venue and serving a selection of locally brewed beers throughout the summer.
Speaking about the announcement, Neighbourgood Market's Preston Mommsen said: "We're really excited to be awarded this iconic venue underneath Edinburgh Castle. Princes Street Gardens is a wonderful location and we are working hard with Cold Town Brewery to ensure we add to the overall offering of the gardens with local, Scottish food, drink and musical performances."
Councillor Margaret Graham, Culture and Communities Convenor at the City of Edinburgh Council, welcomed the news, describing the Ross Bandstand and West Princes Street Gardens as among Edinburgh's most iconic cultural spaces and highlighting the positive contribution the market will bring to both residents and visitors.
Neighbourgood Gardens will be open seven days a week from 11am until 10pm. Alongside food and drink traders, plans include free live music performances, Fringe finale events, a youth music day in partnership with charitable organisations and a variety of additional festival programming still to be announced.
While Stockbridge locals will undoubtedly continue to enjoy the original market on Raeburn Place, the expansion to Princes Street Gardens marks a significant milestone for one of the area's most successful independent ventures and brings a little bit of Stockbridge spirit to the very heart of the city.
