Historic Stockbridge Tap reopens with upgraded interior and new menu

May 1, 2026 Susannah Morgan

Stockbridge Tap reopens after refurbishment with refreshed interior and updated menu

The Stockbridge Tap reopened on the 23 of April, following a three-week refurbishment aimed at enhancing the customer experience while preserving the pub’s historic character.

Located on Raeburn Place in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge area, the well-known local has undergone a series of updates, including a newly fitted kitchen, refreshed tiling, updated menus, and new barrel tables. The improvements have been designed to modernise the space while maintaining its traditional feel.

The refurbishment forms part of a wider effort to enhance the venue without altering its identity. The pub continues to offer a curated selection of cask beers from independent breweries, alongside world beers, wines, spirits, and a small food menu, maintaining its long-standing reputation as a destination for real ale enthusiasts.

The Stockbridge Tap was recently named Edinburgh Pub of the Year 2025 by CAMRA Edinburgh & South East Scotland, further reinforcing its position within the city’s pub scene.

Bar manager Neil Hunter said the aim of the work was not to change the character of the pub, but to improve it for both regulars and new customers. “Our goal isn’t to change what The Tap is or who we are; but to keep the heart of the pub and to give our loyal regulars and new customers a better version of the local they love,” he said.

The reopening comes almost exactly a year after the pub was sold for an asking price of offers over £950,000. The sale was completed on behalf of the Edinburgh Real Ale Company, a family-owned business that had operated the pub for more than 20 years.

The Stockbridge Tap was acquired by the same operators behind the nearby Raeburn Hotel, continuing an established local hospitality presence in the area. The pub had been on the market for close to £1 million before being sold in 2025.

Following its reopening, the venue has welcomed back regular customers alongside new visitors eager to experience its refreshed interior and continued focus on independent beers and community atmosphere.
